Ok. I found this on another board, and thought it seemed pretty cool.
Example:
Oli sat down at his desk and booted up his laptop, opening AIM. After a few seconds, he decided to instant message {insert friend's name here}.
Olis_Screen_Name: hey whats up?

Bob grinned. Oli was always fun to talk to!
Bobs_Screen_Name: yo nm just being bored what about u?

Mmmkay. Basically, you only need about a sentence about your character's actions and about a sentence for your IM. It's just like AIM in real life, except it's your characters. Always remember the [ b ]Screenname:[ / b] part, and you're off to a great start. Chat rooms work the same way, except with multiple characters instant messaging.
